What the show is

The Quilt, Craft & Sewing Festival is a travelling consumer show that visits twelve cities across the western United States each year - roughly one stop a month from January to May, a summer break, then a second run from September to November. Every stop runs Thursday to Saturday on the same pattern: doors open 10:00-17:00 on the Thursday and Friday and 10:00-16:00 on the Saturday. Admission is normally a single three-day badge, which is why many visitors come back on the second or third day to finish a project rather than trying to see everything at once.

The floor mixes retail booths with working demonstration stations: embroidery machines, longarm quilting frames and quilting machines, domestic sewing machines, fabrics, quilting patterns and templates, notions, rotary cutters, rulers and guides, applique patterns, lights and magnifiers, quilt frames, embossing and needle-art supplies, stencils, scissors and books. Programming is built around low-commitment formats - Make 'n Takes, free demos and daily door prize drawings - rather than paid seminars.

How the tour is organised

The series is run by an independent organiser that travels its own inventory of vendor booths and machine partners from city to city. The same "Platinum Partners" appear at every stop, offering what the organiser calls a test drive of the machines they sell - the direct-to-consumer sales model of the longarm quilting industry, where a machine can cost as much as a small car and buyers want to try before committing. Because the same exhibitors tour together, the mix of booths at any single stop is close to identical, and the differences between stops are the venue, the admission price and the local guild scene rather than the shopping.
