About the event

The Talbot Street Art Fair is described on its official site as "a celebrated highlight of the national art scene - and Indiana's oldest juried art fair". It takes place along Talbott Street in the Herron-Morton Place neighbourhood just north of downtown Indianapolis, where the street is closed to traffic and lined with juried booths of fine art and craft.

The fair was established on Mother's Day weekend in 1956, beginning with just 15 exhibiting artists and craftsmen and an estimated 1,500 visitors. It has grown to host more than 270 artists from central Indiana and across the United States, working in painting, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, glass, jewellery, fibre, photography, wood and mixed media. It remains one of the few admission-free juried art fairs in the state.

The historic corridor where the fair is held traces back to a $200,000 bequest from John Herron to the Art Association of Indianapolis.

Third-party listings that show June 2027 dates are estimates and explicitly flag the 2027 edition as unconfirmed. The fair has traditionally run on a June weekend every year.
