UAB-CORD hosts the Central Alabama Regional Science and Engineering Fair (CARSEF) in person at the UAB Campus Recreation Center. Middle school students compete in the Junior Division and high school students in the Senior Division. Students compete individually or in teams of up to 3. The fair is open to middle and high school students in Bibb, Blount, Calhoun, Cherokee, Chilton, Clay, Cleburne, Coosa, Dekalb, Etowah, Jefferson, Randolph, St. Clair, Shelby, Talladega, Tuscaloosa, and Walker counties. Typically students must place 1st–3rd in a school or district fair; if a school has no fair, a science teacher recommendation may allow entry.

Regional 1st–3rd place winners in each category advance to the Alabama State Fair (Auburn, April). Top four Senior Division winners advance to the International Science and Engineering Fair (May).
