GNSEF is a regional science and engineering fair for students in grades 6-12 across eastern Nebraska, bounded by the Missouri River to the east and Clay County to the west. No prior fair entry is required. The 2026 edition was held March 20-22 at Nebraska City High School (141 N Steinhart Park Rd, Nebraska City, NE 68410): Friday evening early registration, Saturday judging for junior and senior divisions, and Sunday public viewing (12:00-1:00 p.m.) followed by the awards ceremony. Top-of-fair winners advance to the ISEF. Student registration opens in February; scholarship winners claim funds by mailing a reporting form (University of Nebraska scholarships are handled directly by UN-L).
